Breath of Days

I was invited to do a three-week international artist residency on the island of Ilhabela off the coast of Brazil in January of 2019. My self-directed line of inquiry was the varied ways in which we perceive and represent time. Some images are digital, some are multiple-exposure on 35mm film, and some are video. With some of the digital images I have used a flash that is firing multiple times per second (Stroboscopics, I call them) while I move the camera across the object. It is a kind of staccato scanning that makes me think of meditation and now our being fully in the present can be interrupted when our thoughts stray. Prints are available of all still images.
